Three new murals in the Peter-McGill neighbourhood!

nouvelles-murales

On past October 27, Éco-quartier Peter-McGill unveiled three new murals.

They are located in the Peter-McGill district, in the Ville-Marie borough. All three murals were created by the artists of A’Shop. A’Shop is a production company that supports self-managed artists. A’Shop is specialized in mural painting, street art and urban esthetics. The first mural is located next to the Park Hector-Toe-Blake, on Sussex Street, while the second and third murals are located at the corner of Saint-Catherine Street West and of the streets Saint-Marc and Towers.

THE CITY OF MONTREAL AND THE VILLE-MARIE BOROUGH HAVE BEEN WORKING FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW ON EMBELLISHING AND KEEPING THE DOWNTOWN OF MONTREAL CLEAN.

For former Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre, “the creation of murals is a fun and efficient way to embellish the neighbourhood. It contributes to improving our living environment. We are proud to be working with Éco-quartier, involved in its community, and with talented artists.” “Éco-quartier is also pleased to be contributing to the embellishment of the neighbourhood. In order to do so, Éco-quartier intervenes in problematic spaces. We organize clean-ups with citizen participation, and greening projects, and murals painted by local artists!” says Caroline Coussot, Éco-quartier Peter-McGill Coordinator.

Éco-quartier Peter-McGill took the opportunity to improve the cleanliness of the neighbourhood. Indeed, the presence of the murals allows to prevent the appearance of graffiti thanks to the funding by “Murals in the neighbourhood” of the Mural Art Program (PAM). This program that is co-financed by the City of Montreal and the Ville-Marie Borough allowed for the creation of the three new murals.

Furthermore, Montreal is a pioneer city in respect of mural art. Indeed, since 1970, Montreal has seen an important production of mural art.
