Last week, Clara, the 4R’s Project Manager at Éco-quartier Peter-McGill, has given training on community composting.
Community composters are a real benefit for the residents living in downtown’s residential buildings.
First of all, community composters allow residents who do not benefit from the collection service of food waste to give a second life to their organic waste. Secondly, from an environmental point of view, community composters provide numerous advantages, such as increasing people’s awareness to the environment. Participants are invited to attend a theory training at Éco-quartier Peter-McGill. It may spark interest in those who still doubt to subscribe to this project.
Following subscription, organic waste should be kept in a container. These are second-hand containers given by some restaurateurs of Peter-McGill. They will be given a second life in the hands of the participants. Participants will make their first composting contribution during the site training where they will be handed the ground’s key.
After being done with this training, participants will be autonomous. Should a question arise, the project manager will thoroughly answer it.
During the training, participants will get to see the whole picture of the process of organic matter decomposition in composting. Understanding is the key to the top-quality Éco-quartier Peter-McGill’s compost.
By making the most of the organic matters only few metres from their dwelling, community composters reduce carbon emissions created by the transport of organic waste to their treatment site.
It’s quite the deal for the participants! To be granted anytime this top-quality compost for free, directly at the community composting site!
The Éco-quartier organizes harvesting and sieving activities on compost once or twice a year.
Compost is the black gold of gardeners. Use it as an organic amendment just by mixing it with the soil’s ground. Your eyes will see that “the black gold of gardeners” is a well-deserved title.
