Why changing single-use bags for the Montreal bin?
Everyone can help to reduce the amount of waste by taking on better consumers’ habits, making a reuse of organic waste, recovering recyclable materials and by reducing their household hazardous waste. Thereby, the municipality support your efforts by giving you this new bin.
The Montreal bin has been developed by a team of Montreal designers working closely with a Quebec manufacturer. This is an innovative tool. It has been designed specially to increase the overall volume of recyclable materials, to improve the City’s streets cleanliness and to make the handling for citizens and collectors easier. It fits like a charm at home, it moves well in the stairways and it is placed easily on the sidewalk for collects’ days. The Montreal bin possesses a lid to prevent materials from coming out when the bin is being moved or the wind blows.
When will I receive my new Montreal bin?
The bins will be left in front of the doors of the designed residences during the months of September and October. Every bin will be identified with their residence’s address.
What if I don’t receive my Montreal bin?
If you live in a building with 8 units or less and you did not receive a Montreal bin, please contact your Éco-quartier to order one.
Can I continue to place my recyclable materials in single-use bags?
Even though this is not recommended, the borough will continue to collect them. However, the borough will stop distributing them.
I’m going to move soon, so I won’t be using my bin. What should I do with it?
The bins are the City property and they are linked to their address. When you leave, let the bin on the place. It will be used by the next resident(s). Moreover, the bin must remain intact, it must not be painted or used for other purposes than the storage of recyclable materials.
